I was so tired of listening to Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, and Rihanna on my playlist. They have been there since college and that was a "few" years ago.
Sure…it's catchy, upbeat, and fun to work out too. But the problem was I can't STAND the lyrics of nearly every song on my IPod.
I didn't have music with profanity, but the lyrics were just wretched. Not to mention the lack of musicality and content. Plus, my spirit didn't enjoy it.
So I went on the hunt for some Chrstians songs that weren't totally lame (and on K-LOVE all.the.time) that could get my blood pumping at the gym.
: Higher by Lecrea (ft Tenth Ave North)
:Take Me There by Trip Lee (ft Jimmy Needham {who I heart})
: I Will Find You by Jimmy Needham (feating Lecrea {who the hubs hearts})
: Hanging On by Britt Nicole
: No Matter What by Kerrie Roberts
: Grace Amazing by Jimmy Needham
: Surrender by Beckah Shae
: Favorite Song by Toby Mac
: Love Is All by Je'kob
: Please Don't Let Me Go by Group 1 Crew
: Boasting by Lecrea (featuring Anthony Evans)
: Eye On It by Toby Mac
Can't Have My Soul by Je'Kob
And here's my best "warm up/cool down" music. It's actually been an awesome time for me to worship Jesus while I'm totally concentrated on Him.
: Awake My Soul by Chris Tomlin (featuring Lecrea)
: Come Thou Fount by Trinity Grace Church
I'd love your suggestions on this! I'm always looking for fun, fresh and godly music to fill me up!

I don't know about workout music, but I totally understand the need for clean music that isn't lame!
ReplyDeleteI really like Josh Garrels. He's a Christian artist but his stuff is so musical and doesn't sound so processed.
I love your list and love that it is clean! It is hard to find good music to listen to anymore! Thanks so much for sharing! Julia @ www.juliakendrick.com
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great thing. I have the same problem. So thank you!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! There definitely are alot of great Christian options out there these days. :) How about some RelientK or Hawk Nelson? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this at A Humble Bumble. Listening to one of your songs right now. :)
found your link on humble bumble. I am working up a post of my own about good workout songs.
ReplyDeleteI started with pandora internet radio. I picked workout themes that I thought would be OK, but when I really started in, I was embarassed at the thought of my kids putting these lyrics in their brains. They were not bad by any means, but bad enough that I did not want my kids or myself going around singing lyrics about drugs and sex. I love the christan music and I enjoy K-love. I am excited to listen to your playlist. Thank you for sharing. I love it when I can work out my body and soul at the same time. I will try and get you a link to my list when I get the post done in the next week or so. in the meantime I am writing all about good simple christian living at www.lifelesshurried.com
Thank you! I always am looking for good clean music! I like Toby Mac's "Get back up" it is another good one!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to share these songs with my teenage girls.

This is such a timely post! I enjoy catchy secular music (almost) as much as the next person, but I was appalled at what I heard when I turned on a Pandora workout station the other night. I finally turned it off after skipping several songs in a row. Thank for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteAwesome list! We dance to many of those while doing the dinner dishes! Thanks so much for sharing these at Monday Funday!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post!! I have been searching for this sort of thing for awhile now:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things hop xo
ReplyDeleteLove this - always great to find some good clean songs!

ReplyDeleteI also like: I Will Not Be Moved - Natalie Grant
Boomin' - Toby Mac
Get Down - Audio Adrenaline
No Matter What It Takes - Jeremy Camp
Unbelievable - 1000 Foot Crutch
I know those are some oldies, but hey, they work for me :)
This is definitely a list I need to check out. Our Ipod died, so I just listen to the sounds of spring when I'm running currently. When it was working, my favorite songs to run to were Shania Twain (not Christian, but generally clean) and Sovereign Grace with some Casting Crowns. They may not be quite enough for some people, but I really enjoyed the energy level in most of their songs. Keith and Kristen Getty have some good ones too, Like Creation Sings the Father's Song
ReplyDeleteYou've got an awesome playlist there, Bethany! These are the songs that you need to listen to especially when you're feeling down. You'll ponder about your little struggles in life with the simple yet meaningful lyrics. You should try adding Unfailing Love and Safe in Your Arms. These two are my faves!
