This might be my best MOPS craft yet.
Seriously…I (
with the help of my hot husband) put a lot of work into putting together the supplies for
65 women to make these.
But I love it!
So just in time for Easter why don't you make your very own Resurrection Egg Kit with your kids?
This is the most fun way to go through the Easter Story with the family.
We have always loved doing it together, and the kids truly love it each time!
Here's what you need:
Egg Carton (a dozen)
Plastic Eggs (a dozen)
#1-Fake Foliage (palm branch)
#2-Coins (3)
#3-Crouton
#4-Piece of Leather
#5-Purple Fabric
#6-Thorns (from a rose bush)
#7-Cross
#8-Nails
#9-Spear
#10-White Fabric
#11-Stone
#12-Keep it Empty
As you can see my eggs are out of order in the photo above (oops!).
But you need to put everything in this order, in order to tell the story in sequential order.
I will even attach the list of Bible Verses and expiation of each verse for you.
We start our the story by telling them about how Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and how the people were so excited to see him and shouted "Hosanna!".
Then we continue by letting them each take turns opening the eggs and reading the corresponding verse and telling them a little about it.

(I used a barbecuing kabob stick and trimmed it down and dipped the edge in silver paint)

To represent his body being wrapped in linen for burial

To show he was buried in a tomb behind a heavy stone

To show HE IS RISEN!

{Resurrection Eggs Easter Story}
Egg #1- Palm Branch
Matthew 21:8-9 “A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the tree and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
When Jesus traveled to Jerusalem people were so excited to see him! They shouted, cheered, and waved palm branches as he entered the city. Sadly, when put under pressure these people turned on Jesus later.
Egg #2- Coins
Matthew 26: 14-16 “Then one of the twelve-the one they called Judas Iscariot- went to the chief priests and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?’ So they counted out for him 30 silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.”
The Jewish leaders wanted to get rid of Jesus and his message. Judas was one of Jesus’ disciples and Jesus knew he would be betrayed by Judas.
Egg #3- Bread
Matthew 26:26 “While they were eating, Jesus took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat this is my body.’
During Jesus last meal with his disciples he explained his upcoming sacrifice through the breaking of bread. He was trying to explain he would be giving his body and his life so that we may live forever.
Egg #4- Leather Whip
Mark 14:46 “The men seize Jesus and arrested him.” John 19:1 “Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.”
While Jesus was praying Judas came and betrayed him to the soldiers. The soldiers then arrested Jesus and whipped him by order of Pilate.
Egg #5- Purple Robe
John 19:2-3 “They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, ‘Hail the King of the Jews!’ And they struck him in the face.”
Because Jesus preached the gospel and claimed to be the Savior, the soldiers mocked him by putting a robe on him. A robe was a sign of royalty in those days.
Egg #6- Thorns
Matthew 27: 29 “And they twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head.”
The soldiers further mocked Jesus by putting a sharp crown of thorns on top of his head.
Egg #7- Cross
John 19:16-17 “Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross he went out to the place called Golgotha.”
Pilate finally gave in to the people who wanted to crucify Jesus. After being whipped and beaten Jesus was forced to carry his cross up a steep hill to the place where he was to be crucified. Along the way a man named Simon carried the cross after Jesus could no longer lift it.
Egg #8- Nails
Luke 23:33-34 “When they came to the place called Golgotha, there they crucified him, along with the criminals- one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’”
The soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross in between two criminals. Even in his final moments before death Jesus offered forgiveness to those who were putting him to death. His love and mercy are never ending.
Egg #9- Spear
John 19:34 “Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.”
Once Jesus had died the soldiers put a spear into his side to prove that he really was dead, which fulfilled prophecy that not one of Jesus’ bones was broken. Jesus died so our sins could be forgiven and we could live with God forever.
Egg #10- Linen
Matthew 27:59 “Joseph took the body wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and placed it in his new tomb that he had cut out of the rock.”
A rich man had become a follower of Jesus and wanted to honor Jesus’ death. He asked Pilate for Jesus’ body, so that he could give Jesus a proper burial.
Egg #11- Stone
Matthew 27:60 “He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.”
The stone was placed to prevent robbers from stealing the body, and because it was Jesus, Pilate also placed Roman soldiers in front of the tomb for added security.
Egg #12- Empty
Matthew 28:5-8 “The angels said to the women, do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: he has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you. So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy and ran to tell his disciples.”
When Jesus rose from the dead he overcame sin and death! So sin and death no longer have any real power of those who believe in Jesus and have his Spirit leading them. When he rose from the dead he proved that he truly was the son of God.

What an awesome way to share the amazing story of Jesus' resurrection! This might be a good way to honor Good Friday with your family too.
